Originally from San Diego, California, Kathy grew up with a Beagle and a guinea pig, experiences that helped foster her love for both animals and medicine from an early age. Today, she shares her home with a cat and continues to pursue the passion that first took root during her elementary school years.
Kathy knew she wanted to become a veterinarian while she was in elementary school. Drawn to both medicine and animals, she found herself inspired not only by the work itself but also by the welcoming and supportive people within the veterinary profession. That combination has continued to reinforce her decision to pursue a career in veterinary medicine.
She earned her undergraduate degree from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo before continuing her veterinary education at Western University of Health Sciences.
Kathy is currently a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine student at Western University of Health Sciences and anticipates graduating in May 2028.
Having visited Las Vegas on family trips throughout the years, Kathy is excited to return and gain hands-on clinical experience while learning from the V.O.S. team. She was encouraged to pursue the externship after hearing positive recommendations from classmates and peers who spoke highly of the program.
During this externship, Kathy is focused on strengthening her technical skills, including cystocentesis, blood collection, catheter placement, intubation, and taking radiographs. She has a particular interest in emergency medicine and exotic animal medicine and plans to complete a one-year rotating internship after graduation before pursuing a career in urgent care or emergency medicine with a focus on exotic species. While her primary interests lie in clinical practice, she is also interested in learning more about the business side of veterinary medicine with the possibility of ownership in the future.
Outside of the hospital, Kathy enjoys playing video games and exploring new places to eat.
